The Lord, My Shepherd

Thought for the morning

Matthew 9:36 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

Oh how this verse speaks of the sorry lost state we were in before the Spirit of God spoke to our hearts and revealed to us the true Sheppard, the Lord Jesus! Man without Christ has no sheppard to guide them, care for them, or protect them.

Psalm 23:1-6 1 “…The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

The Lord is my Sheppard, what a joy it is to be able to say that! When I start my day, I do not travel alone for “He is with me”. “He restores my soul.”  There are many times when my soul needs restoration, when I am weary, when the burdens seem to be heavy, when I am depressed, and discouraged He restores my soul!

With our Sheppard leading, God’s goodness and mercy will always be with us.  There are many times we are not totally aware of this, but this is a promise He has made to us!

He will never leave us of forsake us (Heb. 13.5) and we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Just a thought for the morning.
